It reduces air-leakage through the whole house attic fan saving the homeowner heating and cooling loss and energy costs. The Battic© Door Whole House Attic Fan Shutter Seal is installed over the ceiling shutter from the house side in the fall and removed in the spring. Attic access is not required! Simple to install - just velcro the cover into place. By reducing the amount of heat and moisture leaking into your attic, the severity of ice dams and attic mold is greatly reduced! Fits max 36" x 48" whole house attic fan ceiling shutters. Kit includes durable, attractive, non-toxic, white-colored, space-age foam, only ¼ thick, yet has an R-value of R-8. The foam air seals and insulates the attic fan, stopping heating and cooling loss and air leaks. The insulation is a Class A/Class 1 fire rated foam with superior thermal performance. No fiberglass no itching. Larger kits for 48x48" are larger also available.

Craftsmanship was great but the size wasn't quite as wide as my vent. This was taken care of once I put the velcro up so it's not a huge issue. This is a great little invention that will prob save way more money than it cost in the long run. I never use my attic fan anyway.

This closure requires trimming and installatiopm pf velcro tape.
It also comes with white vinyl tape to put on the edge.
If you are going to do this you you will need about an inch on each side beyind the velcro.
Alos the white electrical tape stretches and you have to apply it without thsi tension of you put it on the edge. Otherwise the remaining tension on teh tape will either pull it off or curl the cover.
I had to remove the edge tape becuase I did not leave enough room to apply it and applied under tension.

It works great; the replacement of the velcro could be an issue but our WHF is aluminum so magnetic tape doesn't help

The first one that Battic sent was damaged but I was very impressed with the fact that a real person talked to me and they gave me no hassle in getting a new one; they didn't even want the damaged one returned.
The cover itself is only 'okay'; I knew what it was before I ordered it but it's about the only thing in the market that is made for aftermarket replacements...I was hoping to find something more robust but it doesn't appear that anyone including big box stores has anything better to offer.
