Because I had read reviews about the difficulty of assembly, I was expecting to spend at least a couple hours on it. It was complete in about 45 minutes. Seriously, I don't know what others are doing to make this a bigger project than it is. I will say that the "interlock bracket" assembly is a bit tricky (and a strange design), but it really wasn't too terribly difficult. Would I buy it again? In a heartbeat (and if they drop the price again to $99, I will buy another).
The fan is gorgeous and extremely well built. I know that statement can be subjective, so let me give a bit of an objective comparison. I also purchased two Deco Breeze "Sambuca" fans. See here for details on it:

Received them on the same day as the Hunter and assembled them all the same evening. The Deco Breeze fan retails for much more than the Hunter (240 vs 165). The DB is on sale at lnt[dot]com for 75 bucks, by the way. In summary, overall, the Hunter is higher quality. Don't get me wrong; from the "neck" down, the Deco Breeze is absolutely top quality. The wood/resin base and shaft are simply gorgeous. If you have wood floors, this will be right at home in your room. That said, all metal on the DB (the "head", if you will. Meaning the cage and motor cover) is flimsy garbage compared to the Hunter. The Hunter motor is about twice as heavy. On the Deco Breeze, all knobs are cheap, black plastic that take away from the beauty of the fan. The Hunter, on the other hand, is simply quality craftmanship down to the smallest detail. The knobs, for example, are painted the same color. There was thought into the design of each; it's not simply a black piece of plastic afterthought as it is with the Deco Breeze.
Assembly? No comparison, the Deco Breeze wins hands down. 5 minutes vs. 45. That said, I didn't mind assembling the Hunter, I enjoy a challenge ;-)
The Hunter is quieter than the Deco Breeze at the lowest setting. I need a quiet fan for the bedroom, and the Hunter is in there now. The Deco Breeze is too loud for my taste. If noise is important to you, keep this in mind.

I purchased this fan based on looks for a screened porch-that is the only thing about this fan that did not dissapoint, thus the one star rating! I had read the original review about difficulties with putting it together but assumed that it might just be written by a person who was not very handy-at this point I would offer my apologies to that reviewer who, as it turns out, was dead on about this nightmare of a fan. I had even MORE difficulty putting it together than they did. Just getting the pole to tighten in the base with the wire connector extending from the bottom was a feat. The pole was difficult to get in and the nut you needed to tighten was impossible to access. THEN we got to the issue with the safety wire- a strange design that makes absolutely no sense!For two days I tried to get it to work, putting it together and taking it apart five times before I ended up calling tech help. The person I got on the phone was very nice and she ended up admitting to me that this was such a bad design flaw that EVERYONE WHO BOUGHT THE FAN NEEDED TO CALL FOR HELP (they have discontinued this model). I finally got it working but this was not the end of the difficulties. A few days later, when I tried to move it the pole came out of the base, breaking the wire which I the had to tape together!!! Needless to say this was a horrendous experience and it has made me wary of any Hunter product. Even if they give this fan away for free- DON'T TAKE IT!!!

This fan was a complete disaster to install! There is a safety mechanism in place where the interlock bracket has to be inserted just right in order for the fan to work. After spending nearly 2 hours with a lot of sweat and expletives, we gave up Day 1. We tried again Day 2 with our neighbor's help and they too could not figure it out. I mean we were all dumbfounded that we couldn't get this fan to start. We couldn't call Technical Support because they were closed on the weekend. Finally, we contacted Technical Support and were told to jiggle the bracket until it hits the switch exactly. Well we did that and it worked for a minute and then stopped. We jiggled some more and had to rig it to stay flush and it finally worked. I'm still baffled at how we thought we were purchasing a quality fan, but I'd just rather purchase an indoor fan for less of a headache! When purchasing directly from Hunter Fan site, it's listed as clearance. There is probably a good reason for it. Steer clear of this disaster
Pros: The fan is gorgeous, durable and made to remain outdoors. Delivery from CPO Fans was very quick and their customer service was stellar. I would purchase from them again.
