These bulbs are the highest quality full spectrum light bulbs available today. Excellent for reading, they give you true color and superior clarity when compared to standard bulbs. Most compact fluorscent bulbs are not bright enough when compared to incandescent bulbs. This is because they are usually around 2700K color temperature. Our compact fluorescent bulbs are "Full Spectrum" or "True Daylight". This means that they are 5000K. This makes the light more like the color of true sunlight. Full Spectrum lighting is better for reading or anywhere you need to have bright, hight quality lighting. All of our compact fluorescent bulbs have an expected life of 10,000 hours, and save you energy too. Fluorescent bulbs use only a quarter of the energy of an incandescent bulb and they last 10 times longer. Ecological and Economical and great quality of light. It doesn't get any better than that !

Very, very bright light August 28, 2010

I have little experience with CFL bulbs. In my home office I like to use full spectrum bulbs, and so I decided to try this product when my other bulbs gave out. My previous experience with CFL bulbs has been that they tend to be not very bright, so I bought these thinking that it would provide me with a bright workspace--which I like. After putting 3 of them in a fixture and turning the fixture on, I feel like I am working on the sun. Or perhaps on a surgery table in an ER. To try to look directly at the fixture (which has exposed bulbs) actually hurts my eyes the light is so bright. I'll continue to use these bulbs, but I'm going to switch out to just 1 of these along with 2 at a lower wattage.
The form factor of the bulb provides a very large base as was noted by another reviewer. Overall the size of this bulb is much larger than a traditonal format bulb.
I am not giving the bulb a 5 star review because of the sound emitted by the bulb when illuminated. Some may not notice it, and it's the kind of thing that over time I expect one would get used to, but the bulb emits a very high pitched "electric sound" when illuminated. Perhaps with only one bulb it would not be noticed, but when 3 of them are combined in a light fixture less than 6 feet away, you definitely get noise that can be annoying.

I don't like my lights yellow, I don't like them blue. With that in mind, I bought just one of this CFL to check out. It has just a shade of that warm white (5000K instead of 5500K) to it which makes it ideal to use in a residential environment. Pictures taken using a digital camera under this light have come out nice looking - not bluish or yellowish. The difference in color rendering is also clear. So far the lamp hasn't had a high pitch whine which some of the other CFL's have been prone to.
The one thing keeping me from rating this lamp higher is slow startup. Takes at least a couple of minutes for the lamp to reach full brightness. For a 40 watt lamp, it also seems to emit slightly less lumens - but I gladly accept that for better quality light (Quality over Quantity).
Another thing to keep in mind that the lamp is fairly large (tall). This is after all a 40W CFL. Not all fixtures will accept this light w/o the lamp sticking out.
Beats the junk they sell in warehouse stores..
